John DeWayne Day, 67, of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his residence.  He was born August 27, 1942 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Joe Earl and Gladys Naomie (Aytes) Day.

John's family moved to Blackwell when he was around one year old and he attended the Blackwell Schools.

John married Karen S. Franklin on November 18th, 1961 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and they celebrated 48 years of marriage.  In 1962 he and Karen moved to Pinole, California for a short time, then moved back to Blackwell; they lived in Enid, Oklahoma for two years in 1977-1979 then returned to Blackwell to live out his life.

He worked at Turveys Packing House for about fifteen years until they closed, then he began working for National Life, Ins. then later for Darling Drilling Co. for about eight years and last at Southwest Cupid Dist. Center until he retired due to health in 1998.

John loved to fish, hunt, play cards and dominoes especially with his brothers and sisters; he loved to play practical jokes on people.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of the home; his son, Scott and his wife, Tammy; his daughter, Kristi Ward; his brothers, Earl, Arvil, Tommy, Ronnie, Floyd and Michael  Day; his sister, Bonnie Kelly; his grandchildren Samantha Prince, Whitnie Moeder, Quintin, Tenia, Braun, Autumn, Joseph, Payden Day; his great grandchildren, Brylee and Emly Prince, Aden, Andrew and Tessa Moeder, Jessylyn Day; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Doyle, Dennis Irvin, Kenneth Ray Day; his sisters, Doris Ledbetter and Ima Carter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Wingerd, Mike and Sybil Day officiating.
