John “HardRock” Carl Phillips, 62, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at Ponca City Medical Center.  He was born March 17, 1948 in Omak, Washington to Carl and Myrtle (Harvey) Phillips.

Family will be holding a memorial service on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm at the Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Steven M. Mallory officiating. 

John grew up in Stockton, California. He attended the Franklin High School in Stockton, California. He then took training for fire department in Marysville, California; AA in fire science; and took a college course to make jewelry in Gridley, California.

He married Devorah “Dev” Ingwerson on May 12, 1967 and raised their two girls, Lisa and Jewel in Oroville, California. When they divorced he moved back to Stockton, California where in May 1993 he met the love of his life, Jaquie L. Shearer. They moved to Lodi, California where they were married on March 21, 1996. They lived there with their three children, Brandon, Zachary, and Shelby. They then moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in February 1998 where they made it their home.

He was a fireman and one of the first paramedics in Marysville, California before he became disabled from multiple sclerosis in 1969. After he moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma he then did delivery and was a repair man for Davis Used Appliances until 2001.

He was a member of the Jaycees in Oroville, California, a co-leader of the Adventure Corp Boy’s Group for Salvation Army, Adherent for Salvation Army in Lodi, California. After moving to Ponca City he became a supporter of the B.A.C.A. (Bikers Against Child Abuse) of North Central Oklahoma.

John was known as “Mr. Fix-it” because he could fix anything and was huge into CB radios. He had one of the biggest CB systems around where it would over power anyone. John loved rock hunting when he lived in California and would make jewelry from stones he would find. His biggest passion was doing things with his family and riding his Harley with all of his biker family.

Survivors include his wife, Jaquie L. Phillips of the home; three daughters, Lisa Draughon and her husband Rob of Susanville, California, Jewel Bates and her husband, Kevin of Elk Grove, California, Shelby Thomas and her fiancé’, Cody Everett of Ponca City, Oklahoma; three sons, Andy Glaze and his wife, Theresa of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Brandon Thomas and his fiancée’, Amber Lazarek of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Zachary Thomas of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Coleen Minor and her partner, Lee Saenz of Stockton, California, Jewel Stiffler and her husband, Erik of Lake Almanor, California; one brother, Darrell Minor of Stockton, California; six grandchildren, Timmy, Missy, Robby, Karolyn, Cody, Heather; five great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Taylor, Mercedes, Karly, Logan; three nieces, Dena Minor and her fiancé’, Scott Brawley of Lodi, California, Cayla Vanotti of Lodi, California, Jessica Minor of Stockton, California; two nephews, Donovan Minor of Stockton, California, Mainer Harvey of Lake Almanor, California; father-in-law, Jack Shearer of Ponca City, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Phylis Delaney of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step father-in-law, Everett Delaney; one great grandchild, Jonathon.
