Jean
Mae Goodwin, 87, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away
Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Ponca City Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, Ponca City, Oklahoma. She
was born May 11, 1921in Bliss, Oklahoma, now called
Marland, to Layfette and Eva (Gensman) Garrison.
Jean request to be cremated and the burial will be
at IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Arrangements
are under the direction of the Blackwell Funeral
Home, Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Jean was an accomplished cook who delighted taste
buds in over 4 states with her own unique flavor and
recipes. She was a prior member of the First
Christian Church. She enjoyed cooking for family get
togethers, fishing, dancing and listening to country
music.
She was married to Raymond A. Price in 1945 and he
preceded her in death in 1994 and they had one
daughter Kay. That marriage ended in divorce where
she later married John R. Goodwin in Durango,
Colorado in 1970 and moved to Pryor, OK around 1982.
They were later divorced and she moved to Ponca City
to be near her daughter and family around 1976. She
took care of her mother Eva till time of her death
in October 1982 then moved to East Terrace Apts.
Residing there till July2006. Then moving to Ponca
City Nursing Home for the remainder of her life.
Survivors include one daughter; Kay Delamar and
husband James of Ponca City, OK; two grandsons, T.
James (Staggs) of Ponca City, Ok and Garrick T.
Staggs of Tulsa, OK; one great granddaughter,
Katelyn B. Staggs of Ponca City, OK; and several
nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven
brothers, Robert Claud, Lloyd Layfette, Pearl
Phillip, William Arthur, Boyd Andrew, James Layfette,
and Roy Raymond; two sisters Eva Beatrice and Eva
Jane.
She leaves
behind long time friends Sandy and Charlie Harviston
of Webb City, OK, and several dear friends at Ponca
City Nursing Home.
Jean’s family would like to thank the caregivers,
nurses, staff from Ponca City Nursing Home and Image
Hospice for the kind and professional care they
provided.
A small memorial service of family and close friends
will be on Saturday, October the 18th. For details
