Edith Laverne Courtney, 85, of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at her residence in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She was born January 20, 1924 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Jesse and Laura Viola (Vesper) Lumly.

Graveside service will be Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Blackwell Cemetery with Pastor Cliff Johnson of the Blackwell Tabernacle Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackwell Funeral Home, Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Edith grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma where she attended and graduated from Blackwell High School.

During WWII, Edith worked in Wichita, Kansas as a riveter on Boeing Airplanes. After the war ended she worked varies jobs but enjoyed making hand crafted ceramic dolls the most and she worked at Hunts Department Store in the fabric department for many years.  She was a member of the Tabernacle Church.

Edith enjoyed antiques, flowers especially Peace Roses, gardening and canning. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and her special companion Laelae the dog was always by her side.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn Lou Crawford and her husband, Charles, Max Ivan Courtney, Jr. and his wife, Debra Lynn; her brother, Earl Lumly; and her sister, Barbara Jean Wynn; her grandchildren, Traci Michel Hensley and her husband, Jeff, Wendi Noelle Lane and her husband, Kevin, Joseph Andrew Crawford and his wife, Dana, Daniel Wesley Crawford and his wife, Cassandra, Sara Beth Simonton and her husband, Clint, Brandi Shea Evans, and her husband, Karl, Courtney Heather, McClendon and her husband, Scott, Skylar Nicole Osgood and her husband, Lance, Kelsy Autumn Sandborn and her husband, Bob, Wyatt Hunter Courtney and his wife, Devin; great grand children, Kylan Nicole and Allyn Blair Hensley, Chase Austin and Taylor Jo Lane, Hannah Marie and Samuel James Crawford, Jared Charles and Maleah Abigail Crawford, Charley Rose, Owen Leclair and Henry Simonton, Lauren Elina and Lyndon Kale Evans, William Max, Macy Adelia, Megan Ashlee, and Molly Autumn McClendon, Guyston Reece Courtney, Jason Lance Osgood, Kenda Hope, Courtney Autumn, Bobbie Carroll Sandborn,  Halleigh Faith Courtney; her sister in law Mary Lumly; her brother in law Jim Zimmerman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Vaughan in 1990; her brothers and sisters, Ina Mae Leslie, Raymond, Bob and Clifford Lumly, Betty Zimmerman, Gerald, Jo Ann and Vernon Lumly.
